No visit to Paris, however brief, can be considered complete without eating there. What did you eat and where?

Au arches d'or est normalement inacceptable, sauf dans le grave urgence
If its any consolation I think the views are actually better from the deuxième étage than the top. The top is actually so high its more like being in a low flying aircraft than a tall building.
Last time I went up the Eiffel Tower it was winter and freezing cold. I did not stay long.
Good views at a lower price and in comfort can be had from Monparnarsse Tower

Agreed, the Montparnasse tower while less iconic as excellent views, and is much better if you're not good with heights! It also means you don't have to look at the ugly Montparnasse Tower...
>>so long as I remembered the metalwork's not spontaneously collapsed now for 125 years.

So...hang on...this didn't really happen?

"ugly Montparnasse Tower": no doubt you are referring to Guy de Maupassant, who reputedly ate lunch at the restaurant in the Eiffel Tower every day as that was the only place in Paris where he could not see it.
Fabulous pictures DG, so long since I went to Paris it was good to see it once more
