No photo of the cherubs? You do disappoint!

I've come to the same conclusion about Purley Way. There's no car-free way of getting between IKEA and the rest of shops without either a) getting on the tram or b) going along the footpath that runs parallel with the tram tracks, but it's not obvious from one end where the path leads.

Are we going to get to Captain Sensible's anthemic "Croydon"?

Selhurst Park is a bit of a dump and a bugger to get to from North London.

If anything your description of Purley town centre is charitable.

Tesco proposed redevelopment of the town and gyratory with them paying a large contribution towards it but after public consultation dropped the plans as too expensive.

The open meetings were a classic case of the majority thinking either:
i) if Tesco has anything to do with it then it must be the work of the devil and so must be opposed
or
ii) Tesco have ruined Purley so even though the plans may be a great improvement on what we currently have we are going to oppose them out of spite. So no realpolitik in Purley.

Meanwhile we all have to live with the awful gyratory and the divided town centre.

So its good that its really easy to get to Croydon Town Centre with it shops and excellent transport connections (so you can escape the borough).

If your visits to SE25 mean Palace always get thumped 4-1, I suggest you return more often.

My friend's mum was a councillor in Croydon some years ago, and when IKEA were opening, and new streets were built and needed to be named, she suggested "Turner Way". The excuse was that the manager's name was Mr Turner, but it was also supposed to be a warning to all those who dared enter...

It didn't quite make it through the committee, but something similar is still on the maps.

The only reason I don't mind Purley Way is the big Chinese supermarket with the excellent Vietnamese restaurant above it. Food's fantastic.
