Jay Foreman who made the "Northern Heights" video also has a video called "Every Tube Station Song" which is clever and amusing.

Geofftech, I put the Jay Foreman video link in the comments yesterday, but couldn't make it "clickable". glad you've provided a readable version
Awww, that sign is wrong. As far as I know the Nature reserve is only open on the last Sunday of the month, and even then it might only be during the summer months.

As a kid that was my back garden. A yell to mum that we were going "over the railway", and me and my friends would nip over the fence and be gone for hours, building camps etc!
Went again with my own kids last summer, but it's too overgrown now to scramble up the banks and over Grandma's fence anymore! We tried!
Given the amount of investment necessary to create a railway, it seems somewhat bizarre that disused routes like this are not safeguarded in case they are needed in the future. Building houses on the trackbed is particularly short-sighted.
@ Andrew

doubt any new railway will be created. sure there might be the odd new station or little extension/branch off...but new railway; don't hold your breath. an if HS2 gets the go ahead then that be it for the next 50 years at least. they could use these disused routes as cycleways...but no one would feel safe using them (even if they are painted blue an have cctv).
The disused M1 slip road does follow the former railway line under the A41.

I remember the old Edgware station buildings (or perhaps only the goods shed) behind what used to be the Green Shield office block - it would have been not on the site of the shopping centre itself, but where the delivery bays and the car park entrance are now.
Footpath, cycle route, guided bus, tram, light railway ... maybe not now or next year, but who knows what could work in the next 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 years. But all that becomes much more difficult with a block of flats in the wrong place.
