You picked a good day to visit. It was sunny, but the crowds had gone away.

Thank you for the report and for the links.
Small correction to lovely piece: for GLC read LCC!

I sincerely hope that when the Walthamstow Wetlands open in over a year's time the smell of commercial exploitation is less strong!!
Great write up and pictures - I'm quite close to this so will have to visit.
Looks like an excellent diversion for people walking the Capital Ring.

Have you ever been tempted by bouldering in the Castle climbing centre in the old Victorian pumping station on the other side of the West reservoir?
Thanks for this DG - I took myself over for a wander this afternoon. The midges were out in force. The new facilities seem very popular with the local Jewish population.

Advertising hype is what it is, and there's nothing new about it. Muswell Hill in Victorian times advertised itself as the Northern Heights with fresh air. The Victorian development in Hornsey N8 marketed itself on the Pleasure Grounds in Middle Lane.

I've always hated the Woodberry Down estate, it looks so intimidating. But this afternoon, looking at the new blocks going up, I couldn't help but think they're just as (if not more) ugly. With all the money they're spending on it, can't they come up with something more architecturally appealing. At least the landscaped grounds next to the New River were attractive.
I've been kayaking in the west reservoir before, but didn't know there was such wildlife in abundance so close by. I'll have to bring my young offspring along for a toddle!
"long term large scale public-private partnership" not sure who benefits from that, but i can have a good guess. have experience of 'short-time small-scale public-private partnership' and can tell you it was little short of a disaster...although the 'developers' may say otherwise.
I think Lizzy's is the same Lizzy who runs the cafe in kiosk on Newington Green. Which is brilliant. She's made a real go of it with homemade cakes & tasty savouries, as well as drinks, when others had failed in the space before. So should be good once they've got the hang of customer volumes there.
