I had about 7 months of the 6-channel £99 subscription left when ITV digital went down, so I haven't lost that much if I can legally keep the box. But what do I do if the box goes wrong?

I'm afraid if your box goes wrong now there's nothing you can do, not even watch QVC to see how much a new Freeview box would cost.

Freeview came in handy on Tuesday when normal BBC2 was off the air due to a power failure, so I could still see "Happiness". And an event as predicted in the Jon Pertwee Dr Who story "the Daemons" takes place on Sunday .. we'll have BBC3!
