I did the same walk, but in reverse a few years back.

I'd never been quite sure of the source of the river, but I knew where it finished, so it made sense to walk until it stopped at the other end.

The river can be seen, but not followed, from Brooklands Lane, a footpath between North St and Marshalls Road. I lived round there in he 50s, and there was a cleaning products factory, - "Betterwear" which discharged its filth straight into the Rom. Probably a fire risk.
