Can London declare independence, and possibly build a wall?
Independence for London could be a possibility, we could then keep all our taxes - anyway, this is where things get 'interesting'.

Many Labour areas outside London voted for leave, apparently Labour canvessors were 'shocked' by the hostility they encountered on the doorstep in these areas, which shows how clueless and out of touch the Labour elite are.

I'll get my coat!
We now live in a country where the people that hold the political balance think you have to vote in ink so that MI5 don't rub out your vote. There's really not much you can do about that.

Committing economic suicide is a pretty silly way to stick two fingers to political correctness.

I'm mindful of the words I heard Andy Hamilton (I think) say in a trailer for ISIHAC: 'Don't cut your nose off to make it easier to put a jumper on - just get a cardy'
It's a mess alright. Did the sensible thing and went to sleep. I'm stunned. OMG.
I thought it was Jeremy Hardy, but I could be wrong.

Cameron to resign too. Boris or Gove for PM? Or Theresa?
Scotland 68 to 32 for remain. Will we have another indy referendum soon?
Can we just skip now to the bit where the robots take over please?
@ Gerald

Before or after the ice-caps melt?
@ Ultra-Man

TBH, if it means I don’t have to see the Hair Bear Bunch (aka Trump and BoJo) in charge, I’ll take a kettle and a 3000 mile extension lead out there and melt them myself.
build a wall? Sounds like a trump idea
If we'd been offered the "reformed" EU Dave promised I'm sure the result would have been reversed. It was never on the table though.
Is this result binding? I read somewhere that it will need an Act of Parliament to leave the EU which means that MPs will have to vote on it. Is that true. If so why can't the result be used as a barganing tool to get more of what we want from the EU and then stay in? No?
@ Agent Z

No it’s not legally binding. In order to trigger the two year process of leaving the EU, the PM needs to invoke Article 50 of The Lisbon Treaty. This is his decision alone and does not require a mandate from Parliament. He has made it quite clear he will honour the referendum.

In terms of renegotiating, the EU today stated categorically that will not happen and in fact that they want us to leave as soon as possible. The recent concessions given to Cameron earlier in the year are now void. A lot of people were saying that the EU would go easy on us because they need us and our trade as much as we need them. But I’ve always felt that they would play hardball in order to discourage other countries following suit, which would be far more damaging. Things do seem to be shaping up that way.
@Gerald

If that is so and they want to play hardball with all countries I can only see the EU going one way. Self destruction
The last couple of comments prove the point that the average British mentality is not compatible with a EU. Them and us.. that's always been the British starter. That is not what it's about.

SO much good has now been thrown away, it will hard to ever get the country back into such an enviable position. Especially in relation to opportunites for the people. For instance, Higher Education in the U.K. is already expensive and is likely to become much more so. This will of course, alienate even more those parts of society that voted to leave. Higher Education is free in Germany and Brits were able to study there, free of charge. http://www.erasmusprogramme.com/ That's sadly all gone now.
But, paradoxically, a claim about "the average British mentality" being different from non-Britons' is itself an example of the stereotyping which has got us into this mess.

I do not blame the average citizen; Britain probably has no greater proportion of bigots than any other country in the world. I blame the politicians who should have known better, whipping up the nationalist attitudes (which would always have been there) for their own selfish purposes.
Education never comes free. What IsarSteve is saying is that someone else is paying for it - us, probably, with our contributions to the EU.

A percentage of what we contribute does come back to us, but with much having been creamed off and directed elsewhere. That basically is what the EU is all about. As net contributors, we should be able to express an opinion without being told 'it's them and us.'

And never think that anything in this world is free. Someone is paying for it - even if it is not IsarSteve.
@Malcolm: Politicians are themselves bigots or bigot-exploiters by definition. None should be trusted, though inevitably some must have their way for one time, usually because their opponents are (or are seen as) a bigger evil / stupidity.
Yes, I accept your point Temp.. But the EU certainly doesn't pay for German education.. and whose money is 'ours'? I could take it down to your level and say that 'We' the German taxpayer .. invest more in Wales than the London government. But those are the weasel words of the Brexiters.

The German government finances eduacation from taxation, which enable all to have an opportunity.

Not the same as in Britain where it costs an awful lot.. and produces hundreds of cloned Boris' and Daves, all with the same elitist vocabulary and dialect.
I have rarely seen a photo that conveys so much sadness!

Also wise words from Malcolm.
How ironic that an ideological battle amongst Parliament's right-wingers (upholders of the Establishment) has produced a situation where the monarchy is surrounded by uncertainty.
