Pity the about the boat windows, in you photo there does not seem to be many people queuing for boat rides, if they cannot attract many riders for free trips I doubt if a commercial venture would succeed.
I went on the shorter trip to Bow Locks - so short in fact that it was advertised as a 25 min trip but took 16 there and back despite going as slow as possible. I'm not complaining though as it was free and reasonably interesting if a heron and a nesting swan surrounded by litter counts. Our boat attracted about 20 and although a commentary would have been good (we did get a safety announcement) I would still have paid up to £3 for the trip.
I went on both trips. At Old Ford Lock they rolled the windows up for the return journey - it made all the difference.
Interesting to hear about, but definitely unappealing. There must have been plenty of rats in the vicinity.
I think the directors of the company were remarkably restrained. If I had lost £3m odd, I'd have drunk the £900 stock of champagne . .
thanks for bringing this to my attention. Actually, less for their activity downstream, but for alerting me to the fact that someone is going to offer narrowboats for hire in the Lee Valley again! The last company to do so (in Broxbourne) stopped doing it, even though it was very popular...
Much better on your own boat of course. have done this stretch twice this year and hope to go up the River Lee in the summer. Not quite the area (or boats) for disco cruises but perhaps a Sunday afternoon buffet with jazz playing - Limehouse up the Lee to Springfield (through 1 lock) would be a nice trip. Or better still in reverse so people can park easily. Saying that Fish island to Springfield avoids the lock.
