It's a little known fact that Sir Jimmy Saville co-hosted the very first Top Of The Pops with Gracie Fields back in 1936. In fact, it looks like I'm watching that very show on my TV at the moment.

fortunately for you, 1936 television WAS quality, allowing for the fact that all the ladies looked like Barbara Cartland and Gracie Fields was banned from TOTP because she sang with a northern accent unintelligeable to viewers in the Imperial Metropolis.
