Always look forward to these numbers....
Is the Canary Wharf total based on just the Jubilee line station? There is of course also a physically separate DLR station with the same name which is also reasonably busy. And in 2018 add in yet another physically separate station with the same name when Crossrail opens.
None of these figures include the DLR.
Some DLR figures here.
Fascinating as always. I could comment on a lot of things but just a three:

I cannot believe Olympia has got 53% busier as a tube station when the train service has effectively gone down from 7 days a week to 2 days a week. Either some London Overground figures are included in that or the fact that it is now gated means that something approaching the true figures are at last coming out.

Of the ten busiest tube stations not in central London, four are on the Victoria line and three are on the Jubilee line extension which suggests that the planners have got things very right. Of the remainder, two have had capacity enhancements in the last decade or so leaving Camden Town waiting for its turn to come.

The busiest tube station is Oxford Circus which suggests that the Hanover Square entrance to Bond Street Crossrail station will be very busy. The second busiest tube station (not also a NR station) is Bank/Monument which suggests how vital the planned station capacity enhancement there will be.
No wonder Oxford Circus tube station is so crowded and often has to be closed, handling in its small underground area more passengers than the large spaces of Waterloo Main line station.
I enjoy reading through these figures every year and looking to see stations in my area and if they have gone up or down in passenger numbers.
I wonder if the 333% increase at Terminal 4 tube is due to the closing of T1 and the recent rebuilding of the old T2, and maybe flights being shifted to T4 during the works.
Thanks for clarification on DLR numbers. If we add Jubilee Line and DLR then Canary Wharf is busiest outside zone 1, which is what I'd expect.
Re LHR T4. BA used to be (mostly) in T4 but moved to (mostly) T5 in 2009. I'm guessing it took a while before other airlines switched into T4, so T4 footfall in 2009 would be unusually low.
I assume Oxford Circus has had its numbers temporarily inflated because of the closures / restrictions at Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street while their capacities are expanded.

On the assumption that gate data is used in the compilation of the stats the Highbury's total will be affected by the growth in Overground usage. Ditto for Blackhorse Road. There's no doubting the stations are busier but it's not all down to LU traffic growth at some locations. Tottenham Hale is interesting given it has separate gatelines for LU and NR. I assume all the new flats nearby are a factor there.

Surprised by Royal Oak seeing a large increase.
@ Island Dweller. Stratford still bigger because you have to add in the 6.7 mills who use the DLR there as well as the 8.3 mill to Canary Wharf.

Either way. As someone who lives in Stratford it certainly feels busy! As does Canary Wharf whenever I visit there.

I'm pleased to see that Dorking West is still at a reasonable 56,948, up slightly from the 2012/13 figure of 55,774 and way beyond the unbelievable figures of 16 and 22, etc. from the previous years.

It's all down to how to attribute the figures, when there's more than one station involved in the locality.
Most of the "10 least busy National Rail stations" have what appear to be "Parliamentary Services", i.e. a daily service of just one or two trains stop each way - hardly conducive to heavy patronage!
strawbrick says that very few trains calling at a station -> very few passengers. This could be so, but another version would say that very few passengers at a station -> very few trains calling there!
Thank you for this ever fascinating list.

I am looking forward to seeing how the list changes when Crossrail fully opens.
Joan at 0900. Stratford... Is that true? It's one combined gateline for tube, DLR and National Rail. I'd have assumed the Stratford total is all modes - how can you tell from Gateline beeps who is using which mode?
@ Island Dweller. You're right of course. It was just Diamond Geezer saying that none of the figures include the DLR. Given that tickets are checked on the DLR I thought they might have been deducted but I guess not. Another complication is those who join the DLR from National Rail services and are asked to beep in on the pink oyster readers.

Anyway all very busy!

Joan
Are the Overground figures available anywhere? Would be interesting to see how they compare
The National Rail figures include all Overground stations, for example:
• Woodgrange Park 700,000
• Clapham High Street 1.1m
• Imperial Wharf 1.8m
• Gospel Oak 3.5m
• Hackney Central 5.3m
These numbers are small compared with Japanese railways stations

Shinjuku handles over 1 million passengers per day.

DG you should really come to Japan. You'd love it.
Is Liverpool Central really busier than Liverpool Lime Street?
