Something I keep meaning to do, being my neck of the woods. This might be the kick up the backside I need!
I think there are THREE pubs named 'The Case is Altered' along the Pinn!
I greatly enjoyed the humour in this.

It would be interesting to have an elaborate water-powered machine in the river near the late Heath Robinson's house. There's probably not enough flow though.
There was lovely looking old pub in Dover - The Cause Has Altered. Needlessly destroyed for a dual-carriageway built on a different alignment.

The somewhat unusual name in fact originates from colloquial Spanish at the time of the Peninsular War. Casa de s'alta (loosely translates to "House of Jumping" or possibly just simply "old house"). the pubs were originally (certainly in Harrow Eastcote and nearby) set up by returning soldiers from the Peninsular war who used their war pensions to set up inns
The riverside path past M&S is called Bishops Walk. Nothing to do with men in holy orders - the supermarket was originally Bishop's Foodstores.
Or possible from the Ben Jonson comedy - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Case_is_Altered
