All terribly worthy and educational, which perhaps explains why you aren't getting any comments so far (except this one). |
Brilliant! I hadn't heard of this. Milton keynes did something similar at least twice in the 80s and 90s. |
The other pub at Crisp Street Market was originally called the Festive Briton. I've often wondered if it, and also the Festival Inn, have any orginal FoB-era fittings inside, but have always ben too scared to enter either of them! |
Excellent post. I enjoy finding out about social housing and the worthy aims of the designers - just a pity most of these estates never work. Fascinating that it came from Festival of Britain.

There's also an interesting documentary on public housing, which will be repeated Thursday night on BBC2. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0109dvs |
I walk through this estate and market every now and then and I've admired the flats and houses from the time I first saw them. They just look so good compared to any public housing I've seen built in the last 40 years. I wish they had half the recognition and general adoration that Robin Hood estate gets. As one who worked in Poplar in the 80's before the giant Canary Wharf arrived I can confirm that Chrisp St Market Shopping Centre was well rated by the locals. |
