shouldn't there be a cream egg comment???

I'm not sure what about this post causes me the most relief - the fact that you are considering blog-alternatives (dg, I really don't want to contemplate a day without, well, you), or your reassurance about Doctor Who.

Yesterday I went for a drive in London and got stuck outside Harrods seeing a massive crane being put in the middle of the road. Worth a look but on foot.

Dr Who did look more hopeful than I was expecting too.

As for WordPress...my experience suggests you should be able to create a template that looks something almost exactly like your current page.

I'd go with the new blogger layout.

Looks identical. You know the software too. :-)

Happy Blogging

I don't think sticking with the blogger status quo is worth it anymore. When are they going to pull the next rug out from underneath you?

I'd go with Wordpress. The templates are not as difficult as you might think - at worst it will take over your life for a few days - at best you will love the freedom you have gained. Also you know lots of people who will give you endless technical support.

I managed to migrate my blog off blogger successfully without anybody noticing a difference. (3500+ entries at the time)

Short term it might be best to live with a temp new blogger template and slowly migrate over to Wordpress. Slow migration worked well for me.

Good luck.

Solution "a)" looks good.

I'm with Darren on this.

that new template looks fine, to my untutored eye. And it doesn't preclude you moving somewhere else at a later date...

New template looks good - might not even have noticed the difference had you just switched over without saying anything. Although I did notice that it uses Blogger comments system.

New template looks the same to me, DG, other than the "what's on" box.. which I'm sure you could also replicate somehow? I guess it depends how bothered you are about the comments system.

Switching between the 2 templates there does not seem much difference..
I would go for option (a) that would mean you could carry on for now "as normal". Whilst you could be preparing your site for another host for any possible need in the future. At least you will have some time.

I have read that "Clash of the Titans" was made in 2D and converted to 3D to ride on the publics’ interest in 3D since "Avatatar" was released. This is how the 3D format could get a bad reputation; a few not so good 3D films and the public will lose interest in the system.
HAPPY EASTER.

I'd go with Wordpress: Google could do anything they want to you and you'd have to like it rather than lump it.

Wordpress isn't as hard as you'd think (I've done it and I'm no techie) and there are plenty of people to help you.

Go for it ;)

Wordpress.

Give Movable Type a miss. I persevered with it for 6 years and pissed away so much time making it work that I ran out of time to write. It's high maintenance and not worth it.

Wordpress FTW!

a would be quicker and its quite similar

DG, I've no idea what you are others are talking about concerning your blogging site, templates and wordpress.Too old I presume.
Just enjoy most of your posts and await their return. Thanks for your time and sharing of your life.
All the best mate.Hagar.

Darren's plan for definite. Use that temporary template for the time being, and slowly transfer your archives over to Wordpress and tweak away with the templates to your heart's content. I, and I imagine many other readers, would certainly be willing to help with the pfaffing around with Wordpress ... I think with the amount of content you have and the things you want to do with it, a tightly-regimented platform like Blogger isn't right for you. One more change like this and they could simply screw up your new template.

I think the new template looks fine. It captures the essence of the DG layout. I myself was resistant to upgrading my blog from the old blogger, but found there are numerous advantages to upgrading.

There are a lot of widgets that can be added on a whim... which can be fun.

I find that Wordpress can be slow as molasses... whereas blogger is very fast. I guess there's some sort of external Wordpress turbo editor, but I never tried it out.

I found the new template close enough to the original design at the common resolutions that I believe many readers won't notice the differences. Therefore...

Though a firm believer in sticking it to the man whenever possible, I'd (reluctantly) advise you to stay on Blogger provided you're comfortable with the new arrangement.

One not-previously-mentioned disadvantage of changing to another system (which I am sure has already occurred to you) is that losing your existing URL would break who-knows-how-many incoming links.

New template? Wordpress? MT? I don't mind. I read your blog for the content, not what it looks like!

Hi DG, i hope you manage to sort out your problem with the blog. It must be tragic seeing all your hard work truncated. I'm one of your many regular readers who rarely post but enjoy and enormously value your blog.

The new Blogger template looks fine but the font is much smaller - can you control this? (I'm using Firefox/XP).

Good luck with sorting all of this. Keep strong - your supporters are with you!

Hi DG. Like Martin I am a regular reader and promoter of your blog. I also am one who reads with pleasure but doesn't comment. however the understandable lack of your usual quality content is sadly missed. I tend to feel you should go with Darrens suggestions, however Old Grouch has a very valid point. Keep your chin up DG. Noli nothis permittere te terere!

Adding the follwing to within the head of your template should get teh layout looking even more similar

I have worked with both Movable Type and Wordpress and at this point, I would say Wordpress for the least painful move.

Also, I know someone who would probably be happy to help you sort out your template/theme on WP if we asked nicely.
