Wow, a mention of Marvels Lane, where my mum grew up and where I spent large parts of my childhood with my grandparents. Read yesterday about the library closing, which is sad. You may have noticed the Ringway centre next door; this is named after one of the urban ringways would have been driven through here had the plans not been dropped after large campaigns against the mass home demolitions required, which is why the South Circular is rather shoddy compared with the North Circular.

You mentioned Mottingham in the last section: as of this week it too has a library which is now under threat of closure.

On a brighter note, last year had a revival of motor racing at Crystal Palace, as a weekend event. It used to take place there regularly until the early 1970's, but then the circuit closed. There have been other 'revival' events in the past, but they've been very few and far between, and invariably just one-offs. The good news I heard earlier this year was that the 2010 event had been so well received that its organisers and sponsors will be running it again, this year

When i was a kid i used to fish in the lake and stare at those dinosaures, the thing is i lived in Lewisham and then Lee and for the life of me i cant remember how i used to get there, humph.

I do remember being taken to see the dinosaurs in the park. It would have been in the very early 1960's. I can remember my father had his hat blown off, while he was taking a photo of the dinosaurs. He never did get the hat back and was angry about it for years.

Can't beat coloured dinsoaurs

I did this stretch of the Capital Ring on Saturday 15/9/12, and Grove End Library was definitely open. Out of curiosity, I had a quick wander round. There were a couple of members of staff and, as far as I could tell, no other members of the public besides myself. So by the time you read this, it may have been closed down for good after all.
