Judging from that first photo DG has finally learned to walk on water.

Until I retired, I worked in the IT section of a medium sized Government Department.

The Haven Hotel was the venue for some of the Training Courses I was sent on - I tried to arrange that they were in the warmer months! If the weather was nice, (and to avoid over-eating) I used to take some fruit from the breakfast buffet and go swimming off the beach at Sandbanks during the lunch break!

I remember being warned to keep away from the channel where the chain ferry crosses because of the speed of the water flowing through there.

The hotel also gave it's name to the group of our Senior Managers who regularly had their Management Conferences there.

Had a lovely holiday there back in 1992 I think. Stayed in a bungalow within 5 mins of the lovely beach. It's probably gone now and some new pad in its place.

It's mystifying why THE HAVEN HOT L, an upmarket establishment with a gate to keep out "non four-star guests", has not made replacement of the missing E its top priority job. (Unless it fell off just before you took the photo.)

Sounds rubbish. I've had a look at the OS 1:25,000 map (as you do) and Branksome Park looks like a much better bet if you're thinking of splashing a few million on an early retirement gaff. Much bigger plots, no through traffic, and high up enough not to be imminently submersed.

I think your comment about a 5 metre rise in sea levels destroying the lot is rather cruel - if a 5 metre rise occurred it would destroy London as well.

The highest point in Sandbanks is 4.9m above sea level. The highest point in London is 245m above sea level.

I'm not talking about the highest point in London but the effect on the rise in sea levels you are wishing for so your comparison is a joke.

I'm not "wishing for" the inundation of Sandbanks, merely pointing out its fragility.
