One of the more unusual and interesting new builds on this estate has been created around the "Boxed In" lines of the DLR, where a terrace of new three story houses have been built right up against the blank wall of the DLR with no windows at the rear of them, until you emerge from the top floor where they all have gardens at the rear that are built on the top of the Boxed in DLR, all paved patio gardens so there will be no digging a hole and planting a tree allowed up here.

"A circuitous trek is required - nothing too galling but a bit annoying when the platform runs pretty much alongside Rainhill Way"

Quite a few other tube and rail stations have smilarly annoying access issues. North Acton and Stevenage are the ones I can remember now, but I'm sure all of you have examples.

It's a great shame that they are not willing to build a further exit on the North side of Bow Road, but understandable as the cost would undoubtedly be enormous, one further plan that it still in the pipeline is the doubling of the tracks from Bow Church to Stratford and the land required is still "Safeguarded" for this to be able to be undertaken at some stage in the future.

The Crossways Estate was of course built on the site of the North London railway's works where the NLR built engines and wagons. The names used for the tower blocks - Priestman Point, Hackworth Point and Mallard Point (plus Rainhill Way), are all related to UK railway history.

@Greg - Shoreditch High Street station really gets on my wick. I cannot see why the main entrance wasn't provided on SHS itself rather than a few hundred yards down Bethnal Green Road, adding a few minutes' walk in each direction for almost all users. For a Zone 1 station, in consequence, it feels remarkably isolated.

We're still waiting for the second platform entrance/exit at Shadwell DLR to be opened, it's been ready for years now. DG, you will have walked past it on your recent trek around the area.

And in response to my own observation, I can confirm that after several years of being moth-balled, the alternative exit at Shadwell is now open (finally!). They used the test run for the DLR's Olympics timetable on the 23rd/24th April as the reason.
