The "netherworld sliced off from reality " - rings true of other parts of the river too+ does not tempt me north to the Lea/Lee but the ripe elderberries do - still not black enough here for elderberry and apple jam .

I dont know, the Luton end is quite nice

Well I enjoyed it very much... but then I didn't encounter any gnats, mud, free-range hounds, sudden rainstorms or the like.

This is roughly my neck of the woods, and I never knew the Lee/Lea defination, so cheers for that! We used to cycle the river from Edmonton up to Broxbourne, which must be this same walk I think - at least it definitely starts off in 'murderous country' and ends in glorious countryside!
