I was at last night's meet. Talk about hype and being dumbed-down. This wasn't a serious athletics meeting, more a sports day with an over-eager dad on the mic.
If there's a nice day next week I hope to go and visit the part of the park which is opening on Monday and see how it has changed from last year. Pity about those flower displays, I noticed on the television news from the park that it seems to be mainly grassland now. Probably cheaper and easier to maintain.
I noticed quite a few empty seats at the stadium on the TV news yesterday and heard a figure quoted of 60,000 attendance, I think the stadium can hold 80,000 lets hope that future events manage to fill all the seats.I assume that the "top deck" of the stadium is now to be retained after next years conversion for football and mixed use.

The tickets for last night and today sold out within 2 hours, so there wasn't a problem selling the tickets, maybe they weren't allowed to sell more than 60,000?
BTW - it's tennis racquet. A tennis racket, presumably, fixes the matches!
My bang-up-to-date 1982 Collins is quite happy with racket as a device for hitting a tennis ball with, indeed gives it precedence over racquet.
My last memory of the Olympics is being offered a midnight snack of chocolate Wenlock and Mandevilles on a Singapore Airlines flight, somewhere over Afghanistan, last September. Bizarre or what ?
The people in pink are definitely volunteers - part of Newham Council's Park Champions scheme. Many were Gamesmakers/London Ambassadors who want to continue helping out with events at the park.

I have a feeling that the umpires chair may have been borrowed from a tennis club somewhere.
I am one of the pink volunteers called Park Champions. Great role and I love seeing my bit of London changing so much and helping other people experience that.
Sorry to ruin the illusion slightly, but you'll find that 90% of the "volunteers" OUTSIDE the park during the olympics (in westfield etc)were being payed a cool £23k pro rata, so if they were being payed, this isn't a big surprise.
