I remember that Asda car park well. I wandered through the retail park back when Stratford-in-the-Hole first opened, trying to find the pedestrian route from Stratford station (not knowing that there wasn't one). Did you see the sign which said, "Counterfeit DVD vendors are trespassing and may be prosecuted"?

when I moved to this area, about 30 years ago, the Asda and other large stores weren't there. Leyton has improved considerably since then, lets hope the improvements to the shops etc last for a long time after the Olympics.

A lick of paint - maintained every few years - is all that is needed to transform harled buildings from decrepit to good looking. Hopefully the other local landlords take notice and can pull off the same.

I took a similar walk last Friday, from Leyton round to arrive at the murder scene in Stratford :(
Did you notice the 1st/2nd/3rd podium on the Ruckholt Rd bridge? I think it's surrounded by orange barriers in your photo of the spiky sculpture, which I completely missed! Presumably it's for photo opportunities, although the bus depot may obscure the velodrome. |
