It's still Wednesday here so I can still say glad you've had a Happy Birthday and a fun trip too. I turned in my retirement request in 1984 and it's mostly very good days since. Hope you keep blogging 'til 2017.
Glad you got there and back ok. On my to do list to get to Versailles. Food looks good
Is this a first (dinner pics on dg)?

Versailles looks great. I've not been for over 30 years.
Where better for a birthday than the place associated with the phrase "Let them eat cake"?

Many happy returns, and may your blog go from strength to strength

Glad you enjoyed your visit.
Been their several times myself, having lived in Paris banlieue in 1981 and again in 2001-2. (In 2001 I lived not far away from Versailles at Les Mureaux)

I always preferred the gardens to the house, and really you should try and go when the fountains are operating.

Remember one day going to a demonstration by the Versailles fire brigade of their fire fighting equipment, it took place in the courtyard in front of the house.

Versailles gets quite busy in the summer.

There is another "Hall of Mirrors" at the Granada Tooting.

Oh dear,DG. French strikes! I bet that burst your balloon !! 😆😆😆
Looks like a good day. No "happy birthday" icon (with cake), or did I miss it yesterday?
What a splendid day out!
I went to Norwich when I turned 50! Not quite in the same league!
Glad the strike didn't stop you having a great day out at Versailles.
Has DG ever ventured outside western Europe (and blogged about it)?
Like Andrew, I wondered where the little man with a birthday cake has gone. But after a look into the archives it appears you already retired him after your 47th birthday.

The food looks nice enough, but compared to what you get at a similarly pricey station restaurant at the other terminus (Booking Office, St Pancras), one might have expected a little more splendour on the plate?
Versailles is stunning
Re JQ:
Berlin...
In the middle of Europe.
(OK - a little to far north. But anyway not in the west!)
I think this was the last official appearance of the birthday cake man - http://diamondgeezer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/48.html
Well it's somewhere I've not been and so I'm putting it on my wish list. Meals looks splendid - hope you enjoyed it and your birthday
@JG: IIRC he once went to Iceland* which either completely doesn't count as what one would normally count as 'western Europe'... or (conversely) is about as west in Europe as it's possible to get.

*And, yes, blogged about it
@JQ: DG went to San Francisco and blogged about it, April 2004.
