If 157 High Road is the Jet Garage, then I seem to remember a blue plaque commemorating his birth. Let's see... thanks to the power of Google streetmap

Here it is:

It sounds like it was a very long day!

I passed through Leytonstone station a couple of years ago, as my team were playing West Ham Supporters nearby.
The mosaics were most unexpected. A joy to look at, another of London's 'hidden gems'.
There are some fading, but still very clear murals all over the subways at the northern Elephant & Castle roundabout. Not sure how long these underpasses have left, with the redevelopments of the area planned, but worth looking at, if you like that sort of thing, if anyone's passing through.

Thanks for an interesting look at a borough so far away from me, I didn't know it existed!

I've just discovered Leytonstone - as I now get the train to Forest Gate to work. I go past a small city farm around that area...if ya fancied a change of scene!

top effort... it's almost like being there!!!

Great post, especially the bit about Alfred Hitchcock. I bet they regret pulling down his childhood home now - just think of all that lost tourist revenue...

looks gorgeous
