Real excitement as a kid was top deck of 66 pulling round the twisting turns through Newbury Park's new structure and dad moaning 'waste of money, what's it for'... I still wonder what it's for, and it's no fun now in a single decker anyway. Trolleybus from Green Man to Hoe Street was much more fun. Much faster too. The 66 used to take us from Heath Park Road to Hornchurch Station - still no single bus for this stretch - what a blasted nuisance.

My kids really need their Oyster cards - for getting to after school activities and things at the weekend (school is near enough to walk). They use a combination of bus, tube and overground. But, as I keep saying to them, someone needs to invent a system whereby they get charged on the bus if they get on it for a journey of less than three stops. Buses at school chucking out time are packed with kids who opt to get on rather than walk for ten minutes. Drives me mad.

Kids go free on buses, now?

Kids under 11 go free on buses and tubes, kids over 11 go free on buses but only if they have an oyster card. Their oyster card can be taken off them for anti social behaviour. So a combination of free bus travel and cheap fried chicken shops makes buses smelly and children overweight!

Hmmm, think Mr Bragg's version scans a bit better...

Ah route 66. The route to end all bus routes. Great review. I used to get this bus to work from Romford station to Gants Hill every day. I never ventured all the way to Leytonstone though. Reading this review I feel I missed out.
