I believe that there is similar gondola cable car service, running a commuter service from one of the islands in New York harbour. It seldom seems to have the problems associated with the Dangleway.
The service cancellations on the London cable car have not been mentioned in the news, although train and other transport problems do get reported. I suppose it affects very few people if the cable car service stops, plus there is an easy alternative route.-Unlike the main line rail track to Plymouth which along the coast at Dawlish is damaged by high winds and sea, and thanks to the Beeching cuts there is no alternative train route.(there is talk now of reopening one of the closed alternative lines).
Looking at the weather forecast the Dangle way should be running OK next week.
I wonder how many people were disappointed not to experience the "romantic Valentine’s Day flight on the Emirates Air Line" because of the high
winds
The one in NYC connects Manhattan with Roosevelt Island. it is considerably bigger than the dangleway as the cabins can hold over a hundred people (I have been on it). It think that would effect its stability.

I like how Emirates reclassify 'running' as 'excellent service'. As it's running between two fixed points that are quite near to one another with carriages that are all equally spaced it's difficult to see how they could have any gradients of service between 'running' and 'not running because it's rather gusty.'
I would prefer it if the tube announcements mentioned a "normal service" rather than a "good" service.
"This is the Line Control Room at Baker Street. The Bakerloo Line is running a normal service today, so you may expect delays to all destinations."
So would anybody go on it or any other cable car in gale force winds? I don't think so.

The Cable Car is fantastic. A great innovation for London. Well done Boris!
I've been commuting on it over the last few weeks.

It's mostly worked when I've needed it.

A couple of times it was free, another 2-3 times it was grounded. When it's been off, the Royal Victoria DLR/Canning Town Jubilee is a realistic alternative, albeit with a less stunning view.

Cable car in a high wind sounds kinda fun. They should market it to thrill seekers.
...i wonder if the "London Eye" has ever been closed due to high winds?
The Chinese like it!

I still prefer @dangleway.
Sat 14th February
07.56 No service due to high winds. We will update the feed if this changes.
18.23 A good service has resumed on the @EmiratesAirLDN

I suspect we may see the cablecar's lowest ever ridership figures when the weekly journey count is updated next week. [data]
But it has got a staffed ticket office at both ends.
Are there airsickness bags?
Are THEY branded 'Emirates' - like every other thing to do with this enterprise??
Next week is half term. Wonder if that'll show the lowest recorded ridership during a school holiday week too.
Went on the cable car in Sunday's sunshine and had some lovely views over London. It was quite busy and I had to queue for a few minutes to get on.
Don't muddy the waters with facts from your own experience, James.

You're supposed to pontificate from a cynical dungeon in to which only opinions that match your own dismal beliefs are allowed to enter.
The Dangleway twitter is a better rendering of reality than the official feed. http://www.twitter.com/dangleway
@ Tim Dunn .. thank you for a good laugh. I thought that Twitter site was effing hilarious. I had to write some tweets today (to promote something I wrote elsewhere) and I have never Twittered before and in all seriousness this gave me an idea of how it is done. It is as good as Common Squirrel https://twitter.com/common_squirrel.
