Indeed it does.

Amazing.

Yep - decodes perfectly.

Well done. You have reminded me to try [email protected] which works from any camera phone, no matter how dumb.

Well I recognised it instantly as a 2D barcode. I had to look at the hint to see what it was. By the way, there is a spelling error in that which is extremely unusual for you. Our firm actually sells the fonts and the software to use them. People insist (against our advice) that they don't need the software but, unlike 1D barcodes, the data to display them is fiendish to generate and they usually have to come back later and meekly buy the software.

Yes it does (the barcode).

Blimey, much faster than usual.

took me straight to it, yup...

they've started putting these next to articles in nespapers now (e.g the metro) which i think is kinda cool...

It works! Nice one DG.

Not if I'm browsing with the phone that I'm supposed to load the qr code with.

They need to stay on print media.

Works for me too

Yes, decodes to http://diamondgeezer.blogspot.com

I'm using https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android to scan.

And it *IS* perfect if you see it on the screen and want to use it access the same thing on your phone, saves much typing.

Don't understand this at all. Can't even find the clue that is mentioned above! Someone please put me out of my (provincial?) misery.

I'm with you on this, Fred, I have no idea what the random square squiggle is supposed to do or represent. Can't see a clue either! Please put me out of my (non provincial) misery.

I didn't know at first what this was about but had a vague notion and tried it out! If you have a smartphone go to your app store/market and search for a barcode scanner app. I installed a free app, then within the app took a photo of the barcode on my laptop screen. (I had been viewing on my phone previously, but not sure how that would work.) The phone then decoded the barcode after a few seconds, and opened the browser at DG's blog. Bingo!

I don't have a smart phone. I feel so excluded!

[Like] ( < fb gen, I can't articulate my own comments. Only 'like' things!)

Yep. Works a treat.

But I'm on your blog already!

This is marvellous. I don't have a smart phone so I can't scan anything - and now all the adverts in the paper will be reduced to black and white squiggles which I can safely ignore...

If you're desperate to know what a QR code says, but don't have a fancy phone, you can take a photo of it, and upload it at this decoder site.

There's some clever stuff inside QR codes - the main one being that it's got some built-in error correction, so it'll still work if some of the code is obscured. Or you can use that to embed some basic graphics in it - like this example.

But they probably work best in print. Not in the final three seconds of a TV ad, as Waitrose did just before Christmas.

There's also a code called Intacta that can contain any sort of software you like... images, sound bites, video clips, etc. It can be printed on any paper and scanned to pick up the code. It is also resistant to being degraded, as part of the image can be removed but the code still is intact. I know all about it as I invested in it about 10 years ago and lost every penny. I guess the lesson in investing is wait until an invention actually goes to market before believing in it.

These appear on roadside bus timetables in Aldershot. Downloads a pdf of the timetable to your phone. Simple.... Well done Stagecoach.
