Always the worst time of year for me. I am always happy when December 22nd arrives, in fact I worry in case planet Earth should get stuck in the Northern hemisphere mid winter position! Oh, to be a bird and head south now...

Perhaps I should have also commented that the season change is made more noticeable when the clocks go back in a few weeks time, that makes the evenings darker earlier- stupid idea.

Excellent. Very informative. I read every single word of it. There is a minor typo in the very last para: a missing "see" in "we can still the sun even when .."

dg writes: Sssh, nobody else may've seen it

That was very interesting and I understood it - hurrah!

Informative as always, dg.

Great stuff.

wow!!! amazing stuff... nature is sooo technical...

Autumn is my fave season - let the colours of decay commence!

So does that mean I only get a 89 day summer in the Southern hemisphere?! Short changed again by the northern powers! Probably something to do with the mother-country's entry into the EU...

I find it difficult to express how awesome that blog post was.

Bravo.

What I'd find useful is not sunrise or sunset times, but midday times. For me, that's psychologically the most significant moment.

Is 12pm really the moment when the sun's highest in the sky? And does it rise and fall in the sky at the same rate?
