It's not quite as pagan as you'd think. There's a church service on Sunday and many of the participants will have had breakfast in the crypt of St Mary's. The founder of the festival is a committed Christian. But people will always take these things and see them in their own way so the pagans will turn out along with the Christians in celebrating the spring. Interestingly, I've never seen any objections to the festival from 'fundamentalist' Christians.
I hope your leaf makes you fertile ... a whole new generation of little geezers running around
Looks like you enjoyed your day in Hastings as much as I did.
I think South Eastern Trains need a Geography lesson. I clicked the "£10 rail tickets" link DG provided. The website tells me it's "£10 Kent Destinations" and includings Hastings. Last time I looked, Hastings was in East Sussex, not Kent.
The mermaid pic and a couple of others are labelled in Flickr 'Hastings Old Town, High Street, 5th May 2015'.
I thought you'd want to alter the date.
Excellent!!! Something else I've always wanted to to.

You know the people from The Lions Part (www.thelionspart.co.uk) do something similar in January for 12th Night (the Holly King) and in October for October Plenty (the Oak King) outside the Globe at Bankside every year. Cracking good fun!
Think our paths might have crossed a number of times this weekend, DG. I also combined Hastings Jack in the Green with a trip to a pleasantly-quiet Jerwood, and could easily have been in a number of your pics if you'd just panned left or right a bit.
There did seem to be an awful lot of bloggers in Hastings over the weekend. Not that I noticed at the time...
