one thing that you appear to have got right; you don't mention wearing sandals.
Wearing sandals is ok it is wearing them with socks which is not.

Though I did used to work with a guy that always wore the socks and sandals combo but his socks always matched whatever colour shirt he was wearing that day, which I thought was a nice touch.
But /why/ is sandals-with-socks not-ok?
Sometimes socks are necessary with sandals to stop them rubbing blisters on your feet. Specially with new sandals!
I have one pair of ragged, ancient worn out old trainers in a sort of khaki colour that should have been replaced years ago! In fact they were, but they're so comfortable I haven't got round to making the switch yet!!
One pair of sandals for hot weather (only worn once in the last year) and one pair of black dress shoes that cripple me, also only worn once in the past year to a funeral!
And I'm female!! So you're not doing too badly!
Surely DG you should have grown up into the 'adult male' version of the trainer, that is, the lightweight walking boot (in snazzy colouring).
Pah, I can't wear sandals without socks due to my orthotics. Solution? Don't wear sandals, they're ugly anyhow. (And so are my feet, but that's a whole other fashion issue.)
If you do wear socks they must be odd -preferably clashing bright colours. Something which began from laziness or the 'missing sock syndrome' is now the height of fashion.
