Pedant hat on - sorry DG. First para should refer to Sir Hugh rather than Sir John. The spelling of Myddelton however is, like that of Shakespeare, open to debate.

Further south, the footpath gets *very* waterlogged in places after rain. As autumn is almost upon us, it's an increasing possibility.
It even says Hugh rather than John in the picture alongside. I should have noticed, sorry.

I've been very fortunate with the lack of mud so far, but I'm aware the path could well get trainer-destroying later.
Repeat of a post on comments page of Part 1.
By "co-incidence" there is an article on the BBC News website (Wales section) about the man responsible for The New River: see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-east-wales-23981349 .

Brought to my attention by my brother who lives in Ruthin.
Amwell is a lovely village. Did you notice Emma's Well, just across the road opposite the pool, which is the other source of the New River? When we were kids, we all believed that King Canute drowned his wife Emma in it.
Upon seeing the picture of the private level crossing, I thought: what is a long low vehicle?

Then I found the same location on Street View, where it says: large or slow vehicles. It makes more sense :)
