Ah, the 331. I'm sure that's a part-replacement for what was the 128 back when I was at secondary school in Ricky. And a little light Googling confirms it - the 128 was withdrawn just after I left leafy Herts for the smoky delights of Brum.
I worked as a part-time barman in the Halfway House one summer when I was a student. Pints of Watney's Starlite cost 2/3d, if I recall correctly. The landlord was ex-RAF, and a lot of the other bar staff were moonlighting from jobs at RAF Uxbridge.
The sidings at Northwood station are where old Underground trains are going to die - I don't know whether any were in evidence on your visit?

Decisions decisions. You can get to Stanmore in two moves by using another "cube route" to Bushey, - indeed in the old London Country days the 331 (then known as the 348) went all the way there - but you've not chosen the best stop for that.

But otherwise it's going to be a couple of letter routes, one of them a very short hop.

What's next? Given there are only two realistic possibilities, if your posting times on this magical mystery tour are consistent we should know at 8am tomorrow.

As self-appointed Statistician:
Mileage 89
Duration 7h
Average speed 12.7mph
Border crossings - 13

Surprisingly, no route yet has had a zero in it!
I don't quite get the bit about two St Mary's churches. Both links seem to relate to the same church.

dg writes: Sorry, that'll be Google Maps being rubbish. On all decent maps, and in real life, there is only one St Mary's.
If Borehamwood is a substitute for Stanmore you could try the 306.

I took the 8 to Watford Junction, followed by the 142 (you could change at Bushey, but since the fare is the same, might as well go all the way).

If you want to keep within the GL boundary and not pay non-TfL fares, then obviously the H11 and H12 is the most straightforward route. Otherwise the outermost TfL buses in order would be H11, H13, H12, (182), 258 and 142.

To get value for money, my next step was to buy a day pass for the uno buses and take a diversion to Hatfield, Wembley Park (644), Barnet and Potters Bar.
Two St Mary's churches in the same place sounded unlikely, although I suppose it must happen somewhere. Can anyone suggest such a place?
Bristol appears to have seven St Mary's churches. But maybe that's not quite what you meant.
Stoke Newington?
Lincoln has a cathedral dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, but located in the parish of St Mary Magdalene. (As a Minster (monastic foundation) the cathedral doesn't have its own parish) Does that count?
