The meaning of 'epicentre' is evolving through use. It used to mean the point on the Earth's surface corresponding to the point under the ground that is the source of an earthquake. It is now commonly used in other contexts with other meanings.

When you write it do you mean 'the centre of the centre', or 'the non-geometrical, but causal location of an effect' or something else?

When I write epicentre, I mean 'focal point'.

I could argue, somewhat pretentiously, that here I mean 'Hackney Wick is the focal point of the East London art-quake'.

But etymologically, I'm just being plain lazy.

@MileEndAvimal: the two spoilt brats other side of the fence, the one wears his underpants outside, looks like a couch potato

@Wickmolean: don't think they're underpants, think it's a jockstrap, why'd a couch potato need a jockstrap? poser!

Was your brownie from Gluttony?That was my friend's stall and she does make rather wonderful cakes.

Thanks for the head-up - I just had a rather enjoyable wander down there. Sadly I didn't manage to spot the coracle regatta, but I did encounter the Silly Hat, Saucepan and Moustache Display Team.

There was so much art on show and SOME of which was brilliant Elevator Galleries show, the gymnasium made out of hundreds and thousands of scalpe blades, Fete for the Wicked on Sunday with Laura Oldfield Ford. It's great that you can just walk around these artists spaces and see some work of amazing calabre outside of big commercial galleries. Hackney Wicked lets people show what they want so you just have to trawl through til you find the treasures ...word soon spread around those spaces formed queues of people. It's great that Hackney Wicked lets people show what they like taking ZERO commission on any sales. They only as artists to donate £10 to be listed to the web site! Viva Hackney Wicked!
