Judging by the crowds looking at the view from General Wolfe's statue in Greenwich Park yesterday, of whom a fair number were pointing at the dangleway, packaging it with a trip to the World Heritage Site isn't a bad idea. Admittedly the only comment I overheard was "I was going to take the family on that, but the price!"
3rd reason not to use the cable car is not wanting to dangle helplessly in the flight path of the soon to be even bigger aircraft if City Airport get their way with Newham again.
I agree with Tony - not a pleasant experience really. See my link below.
what is the difference between a "cablecar" and a "cablecar ffs" is it like the Ford cars "L" for basic trim and "GLX" for more upmarket trim?
"Offering parties of schoolchildren a ride on the cablecar for just £1 (a damned clever way of making the ridership numbers look more impressive than they really are)" - well if they are using the cablecar then it doesn't seem like the ridership numbers are being made to look higher than they really are. As one of the big problems with the cablecar is that it is too expensive shouldn't this be lauded rather than criticised?
It's their fault for not designing/pricing it properly - if it ran Canary Wharf > O2 > Excel, and used zonal pricing, I'm sure more people would use it!
I personally haven't seen the slightest bit of promotion for this thing anywhere in London. And I tend to get about a bit.

Either way, 30,000 passengers a week seems like really quite a lot for that funny little ride.

I agree it doesn't really go anywhere useful, but I'm not sure why you're so keen to see it fail.
At the O2 they use the digital signage between levels to advertise the various transport modes, to encourage gig-goers to plan their journey home.

What's especially laughable is amongst the useful information about the time of the last tube and boat, and where to get a taxi, is the suggestion that one might catch the cable car - the last journey on which is 8pm, before most O2 gigs even *start*, let alone finish.
