Congratulations on an enjoyable post as always.
The Gentle Author has pledged to write ten thousand posts on Spitalfields Life.

He still has some considerable way to go to reach that total. And so do I.
I discovered Blackmans Shoe Shop on a recent plimsoll hunting expedition to the East End. My target had been one of the Asian-owned leather shops in Brick Lane but they had either gone up in price (ie. over £5) or didn't have the colours I wanted. So I was surprised and delighted to discover Blackmans round the corner. Real cockney geezers, and I left £15 poorer but with two pairs of plimsolls and one pair of lace-ups. So far they're lasting well too. I'll go there again. It's nice to find somewhere in the area to shop where I don't feel out-of-place because I'm not cool enough, I don't have skinny jeans/beard.
'Suddenly the game is afoot!', eh? Sounds more like your foot was a game :D Lovely post!
Cracking description - I too am the owner of multiple pairs of said stout and sturdy footwear. But, sad news! Now online, Blackmans is about to close it’s Cheshire St doors, for various reasons. In fact, this weekend is probably their last welcoming the good people of East London. Get down there quick before they jog on.
