I stopped off in Winchester a couple of years ago, it's a great place to visit, though I didn't see much of the place. Hopefully you will have 'inspired' me to pop down there on one of my spring/summer days off work! I couldn't live in the sticks in such a quiet town in the middle of nowhere, but it's nice to see how beautiful 'Middle England' can be now and again. |
Once again Diamond Geezer sets the high watermark for ultimate travel blogging. Excellent... amazing... historical... mythological... photogenic... and there's even a free horn of beer and white bread. |
Nice work DG, you saw all the best bits. You must have done your research... Did you have your cup of ale? Cheaper than London prices at least. |
An hour's research is all it took, plus five minutes in the tourist information centre. And yes thanks, I did get my free ale (about half a teacupful) and a scrap of white crust (thin sliced). |
I knew one of the inmates - a beaufort Brother- many years ago. The flats are actually quite nice inside with a living room and bed recess, kitchen and bathroom. You know you're in a historic building but the charity does their best to make it comfortable. |
