Clearly not all London bloggers were able to resist the invitation!

Care - not breakfast-time reading......

Hi DG, OMG. I only heard what "fish pedicures" are the other day.

And yes, spot on, I get these requests ALL the time. "I've been reading your blog and it's great! I think you might be interested in ..."

I really think there's a perception that, as a blogger (read "amateur"), you'll be thrilled and flattered to be sent a freebie. They forget that a lot of the more serious bloggers are the kind of people who write for money in their day jobs, and that the whole point of writing for no money is that you can do what you want!

I once got asked (in the middle of the crash) to promote a specially-designed leather Penguin paperback cover - I can't remember how much it cost but it was shocking. I wrote back to the PR girl saying WHY I thought it was so offensive (not least because Penguin books are design artefacts and shouldn't be covered up in such a fake, snobby way); she wrote back, as you say, apologetic; and then a couple of months later I got the identical email, again, from her, asking me to help sell this outrageously expensive leather Penguin cover! You sometimes have to despair.

Back in 2005, I had a fish pedicure in Hainan Island in China, where I was living at the time. In Chinese they are called qinqinyu or 'kiss kiss fish'.

As I'd got badly sunburnt a couple of days earlier, the fish were absolutely gorging themselves. It's quite fun: the longer you can stay still, the more fish will come, but having all these tiny fish nibbling on your toes, fingers, nipples and everywhere else is incredibly ticklish, and and when you finally flinch all the fish flee away.

And there was me, aching for years for you to write about fluorescent tubes....

I hope these people never stop sending you messages - I just enjoy reading their inane writings.

To take the hint they would have to take the time to read the blog first. Don't hold your breath.

I quite enjoy the fish spa, but where i live it cost's about 2 quid for half an hour, hate to think what it cost's in London.

Do you have a regular schedule for publishing these, or do you just wait for the month's effluent to attain critical mass?

I stumbled/spluttered upon the odd, natural, fishy process while snorkelling in the Maldives; it reminded me of a car wash. There was a stopping point on the edge of the reef where the big fish (and I mean scarily BIG beggars, half your size but twice as wide) would just wait while their tiny attendants all got stuck in and nibbled. After a minute or so the large one would move on over the cliff edge and into the depths, the attendants hanging back for the next biggie that was coming in. You could see the large fish in the distance (crystal clear water and a special time of year), lining up, almost like the aircraft over Windsor. I found it a little disconcerting as I had to keep moving slightly (and breathing through that ridiculous rubber mouthpiece thingy) so as not to be thought the next customer and be bitten - and not just on the feet. It did not tickle but felt to me like small stings and not at all pleasant.

"basement fish pedicure hall"?

Sounds like someone's cellar has a slight damp issue going on. I'd be calling the landlord, not emailing bloggers.

Dale emailed me too, maybe he'll take the photos and write the content?

I really hope the PR people don't take the hint. If they did it would deprive us of your acerbic responses and we can't be having that.

I read that as "basement fish pedicure HELL", which would be much more interesting than anything Ms Chan is selling.

Ha ha, I am about to contact you to review my product..wink wink... what a coincidence.... ;)

I've heard that the fish pedicure is unsanitary. Foot fungus and other conditions from the last person the fish nibbled on can easily be transmitted to the next client. Probably a good thing to pass on that one.

I've heard that the fish pedicure is ok, but some people have reported that there maybe medical issue IE Fish do number 2's in water and the water is not replace in-between clients etc...
I would not get one done to be honest.
