A few minutes after noon.. on 2nd April /20/16? Foreboding.

Thanks for telling us about it DG. I hadn't known about it. It is such a sad story and those people who tried to contain the fire rather than run to safety merit our respect.
Great post as usual but what is the heroism of which you speak in the final paragraph?

The duty manager seemingly prioritised the munnitions over his staff and the staff were producing munitions which, judging by the time period, were destined to murder other people.
An even bigger explosion here, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Fauld_explosion
Similar to this, which you may know about was the Silvertown TNT factory explosion, again during WWI. Enormous explosion heard for miles around and killed 73 people. Read a book about it once.
Not the epicentre. That's the place on the surface of the earth above the centre of the earthquake. Centre is perfectly accurate.

dg writes: I know. I knew that even as I wrote it. And I wrote it anyway. Sorry.
Thanks for this. I go bird watching there frequently, and never knew!
I had a grand day out in Faversham on Sunday. Thanks for the inspiration
