No mention of the shiny big new winkle sculpture? I'm thinking it's likely to gain ore popular approval than the Jerwood.

I didn't realise, at the time, that the shiny big winkle sculpture was less than a week old. Impressive stuff, though.

I spent Friday at Bodiam Castle and travelled there by Steam train from Tenterden Town Station on the Kent and East Sussex Railway, it was a truly wonderful train ride and well worth it to arrive in such style at such a magnificent Castle as Bodiam, I would highly recomend it to anyone.

Should have gone to the Aquarium DG. It is surprisingly interesting probably because it is so low key

I guess Waterhouse may be right, though I heartily wish he wasn't. Jerwood is fine by me, shiny winkle thingy isn't. Local resident, who agrees with me, finds it inadvisable to say so. Coin made more klunk than ding.

It's been a real pleasure to read about these places in and around Hastings, many of which I visited in my late teens/early 20s. At that time the "visitor experience" consisted mainly of an illustrated booklet and one's imagination. Now there are audio guides, videos, re-enactments, etc. Hard to say if this is a change for the better, as the visitor soaks up the infotainment as passively as a sponge but misses out on the rewarding mental activity of "tuning in" to the past. Have any other readers got opinions on this?

It can be a challenging walk to Rye via the Hastings Country Park, It is more of a challenge if you walk up the cliff from the Old Town rather than take the lift. There is a Millenium beacon at the top of the cliff which hopefully will be used again for the Jubilee. Jack in the Green is an excellent festival on May day if you enjoy Wicker Man style festivals.
