Those half-gates are new, no? I don't remember them being there before...

Those gates were added a few years ago, pre-refurbishment. They're not new, honest.

If there's no sign of work to the stairs and no tiles removed/replaced to show evidence of repairs to the tunnel, what have they done during the year long closure? It can't take a year to run some cable conduit can it? Maybe they took all the old tiles down but then got them confused with the new ones and put the wrong ones back up???

I've always found those foot tunnels (and I'm including the Greenwich one) a mixture of intriguing and creepy.

Still much better than a cable car anyway.

"danglway" Andrew. Please! Use the right terminology ... :)

"Danglway"? Nope. Lost me on that one. And my dictionary too!

Arabfly Dangleway it is, as named by Diamond himself in a major anti-corporate b/s stand.

Yeah, the half gates were there before, but the tunnel does look exactly the same as I remember it. I can't believe they haven't given it a scrub in all that time it's been closed!

Perhaps this is the soft opening.

Diamond -- did you bump into Darryl??

Wot!?

Eleven million quid... and they couldn't even run to a bit of Cif and some air-fresheners??? :(

11millon Looks like money well spent.

My OCD is very pleased that you managed to use the tunnel before the end of the year.

I assume you will now be retrospectively updating your roundup?

The BBC article (100% pure churnalism, I strongly suspect) makes it quite clear that "new stairs have been installed". Maybe they spent £11m on an exact replica of the old grotty stairs and gave the leftovers to a skilled chemist to faithfully recreate the original heritage smell of piss?
