You know, I was excited about moving to Hertfordshire last year. Your little round up there just about sums the place up, it really is an extension of North London. I work in Hatfield, and it is as grim as it seems to those just passing through. Awesome train service into the city though! |
sounds like the perfect DG spotting chance tomorrow... |
I'm guessing from the above that when you were but a little gem, you went to <*cough cough*> primary school and lived on New Road or Winton Crescent. Bloody 724 only ever stopped outside Croxley Met.
Ah, the 724. When I was a be-marooned blazer at SJA, I used to watch a 724 sail past every morning when waiting opposite the Two Bridges for whatever stop-at-every-lamppost bus would eventually roll up. (As an aside, once or twice a week I'd have to dice with death as the approaching bus was going up Baldwins Lane rather than Watford Road and I had twenty seconds or so to sprint to the other bus stop and hail it.) I always wanted the 724 to stop, even hopelessly hailing it on many occasions, but the driver never would. Roll on 20 years plus to, oooh, a fortnight ago and unexpectedly I'm once again waiting on Watford Road for a bus to Rickmansworth. Such memories. And what finally, after all this time, stops to pick me up? A 724... |
You think you'll be able to spot DG in amongst a heaving throng of middle aged gentlemen with cameras? I fear you may be disappointed. |
So did you join her for the return trip?! I often wonder when you take journeys from one end of the line to the other, how you get back again! |
No, I didn't go back to Harlow from Heathrow. If you look at Thursday's post, you can probably guess where I went next. |
An unnecessarily gratuitous attack on glorious Welwyn Garden City. Having been a Watfordian, you must be familiar with the charms of Stanborough Lakes, the Campus and our woods. A part of the county, that's not just an extension of North London. And also a utopian dream that became a reality. Well worth an investigation in weeks to come - I can lend you some interesting books!
On the point of the 724. I used to catch it from WGC to my grandparents in Hounslow as a youngster. Happy journeys. |
Stanborough Lakes - heavens yes. But the 724 definitely doesn't take the scenic route. |
