When I saw those barriers at the graffiti wall I assumed that the were there to stop graffiti artists being disturbed by passing cyclists!

I agree that the graffiti was much better before they painted over it.
DG, this is not to disagree with what you wrote but the term TBM in your photo might stand for Temporary Bench Mark, a surveyor's term for a point of known elevation (the actual elevation often being written alongside).

It may indeed relate to a (different meaning of) TBM burrowing below.
So I guess the "Greenway" can be added to a whole host of other "routes" most people would in their right mind try avoid, especially at night. I in my local borough can think of a few.
No, you guess wrong. The Greenway's safe enough, and used by thousands of people in their right mind.
I know you like to take a friendly dig at Plaistow but it's starting to change. Lots of young people are buying in the area after being priced out of Hackney and (now) Stratford. It even featured on a recent BBC1 programme about young buyers. Plaistow mightn't have a focal point - the station isn't near what might be considered the high street - but it's got an abundance of Victorian terrace houses many retaining original features such as tiles in the front gardens and fireplaces inside. Lots of grand buildings have been preserved and tastefully converted into flats - the old YMCA building, the Whitely's chocolate factory (The Spectacle Works) and now the old Plaistow hospital. The proximity to Stratford not to mention the development at Canning Town will send more house hunters that way. Having visited there and Upton Park recently I certainly noticed a younger, artistic mix of people. As for the Greenway, it's such an amazing thoroughfare that has such huge potential. Unfortunately it doesn't get the attention it deserves - which is why it's always good to see you giving it exposure. In New York they'd call it the High Line, in Melbourne it would form part of a key pedestrian and cycle link. Here it's just an outpost of the East End.
The Greenway bridge wasn't disassembled but reused for the velo park:

I remember visiting my great grandmother in her terraced house in Plaistow. She paid £400 for it.
Have you ever been to the ridgway, which is a sister route south of the Thames at Thamesmead?

You might enjoy it. It is a dump though, full of rubbish and pretty dodgy, having never seen any investment given north of the river. Plus it has Greenwich council maintaining it, and they are hopeless at such things so it has ugly fencing blocking bits off etc.
