"and two heritage rail services"
...and London will very soon have only one "heritage" bus service. So is it because London has less tourists (doubt it) or is it a bias against buses because 'perhaps' seen as transport of the 'working class' and trains seen more as the (public) transport of the 'middle class'?
Strictly speaking there are 4 heritage rail services:-

1. The Steam Railway (Douglas to Port Erin)
2. The Manx Electric Railway (Douglas to Ramsey)
3. The Mountain Railway (Laxey to Snafell)
4. The Douglas Horse Team (The length of Douglas promenade)

I have been on 3/4 of them.

I can certainly recommend the coast path. As of about 2 weeks ago, I have walked all of it.

Clarkson actually owns the lighthouse on the Langness peninsula. He doesn't like people walking around there so even though the coast path doesn't cover the peninsula I walked it anyway, just to annoy him!
^ "just to annoy him!" good!
There's also the Groudle Glen Railway (http://www.ggr.org.uk/) but not sure if it counts as a heritage route/service?
I don't know if Grumpy Anon (above) has ever been a small boy, and if so, was at all exposed to trains during boyhood. I have, and I was, and quite irrationally find riding on, and watching, any kind of train, more fun than a bus. It's maybe childish, but that's the way it is, for me and, I suspect, for many people.
Oddly, I have just returned from Jersey, and, while I certainly found it a beautiful and interesting place, its status as a tax haven did predominate somewhat, and it was hard to find 'locals'. Also, its 'Nazi past' still haunted it, not just in the ugly concrete structures along the coast, but also in the local psyche. I could not help feeling that some very old grudges were still born amongst families. As for the (dreadful) development around 'St Hell' (as I heard more than one local describe it), that was the first clue of the deep corruption in the governance of the Island that I have since researched and believe exists.
So all in all having to miss the 'few old buses' event for this wasn't too bad a swap?
Shot mostly in Cornwall, but anyway....
