Thanks for the parts: and the whole.
I couldn't understand why the towpath diversion is so long-winded either - surely the obvious route would be Eastway - Chapman Road - Wick Lane, being much shorter and simpler to follow. But the problem then is the infamous Bow Roundabout - no pedestrian crossings, so no safe way to get either east across the A12 to join the towpath at the diversion end, or south across the A11 to continue diverting south. The ongoing lack of pedestrian connectivity at the Bow Roundabout really is getting silly now.
I was in the Cow (westfield's pub, much too popular so very overcrowded and noisy) last night, the road to the west is now fenced off as dg warns, I'm glad I walked round it some weeks earlier. it's clearly labelled "no pedestrian access" but security guards were allowing some people onto the road to take photos, under supervision. I really enjoyed reading about the whole walk.
I've enjoyed the week's trek, it's been amazing to see the jaw-dropping changes wrought over the past years to Stratford. Some great photos in that Flickr set too DG, thanks.
