Only three of them are true? Damn, I thought all of them were except perhaps the burn an immigrant bonfire.

actually and tragically, i imagine that one is true - there must be three bnp councillors in barking, though i can't see the bonfire being sold to the public as such...

going to go with that, wisbech, and the festival of english food. yum. shame i've got an exam.

Could I add one to be judged true or false?

A community-planned St George's Day Parade has been cancelled in Bradford for Health and Safety reasons.

(Sadly true).

But it could only happen in England...

I think the Wisbech Morris Dancing Festival, Festival of English Food and probably Looking For A New England are the true events.

I'm planning to visit the food festival thing.

I'm intrigued by the idea of Billy Bragg singing Kirsty MacColl's first hit. That was "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis", wasn't it...

But he's a liar and I'm not sure about you.

Three of these festivals are true? Okay, my guesses are Looking for A New England, The Great English Asparagus Run and the Festival of English Food.

If only St. George's Day really was a bank holiday...

"I saw two shooting stars last night.
I wished on them, but they were only satellites.
It's wrong to wish on space hardware.
I wish, I wish, I wish you cared."

Gawd bless Billy Bragg for possibly the finest lyrics ever. Now pass me a Bakewell pudding, please.

I know about the Trafalgar Square thing, because that's all over the tube. As andrewh suggests, the other plausible ones are the asparagus and Billy Bragg (are you sure there isn't something involving wet celery and a flying helmet?)

For those of you who haven't noticed yet, you can click on the ten [true/false] links to find out which three are true.

Happy St. George's Day!

Do you think it ought to be a Bank Holiday?

Ah yes, the links. I discovered that little secret hours ago!

The link from the Jerusalem Marathon is most interesting. These legends seem to have persisted for almost the whole of our history.

And did you know that there is a serious theory that Troy was actually a place in England rather than in the Mediterranean? Try a search on Troy-in-England to find out more.

Curly - Do I think it ought to be a bank holiday?

Absolutely definitely not.

Once more I write to gripe. You played up St Patrick's Day -or rather over-played it- and now poor St George gets short shrift. Shame on you, anglophobe

Anglophobe?!
I don't know why I bother.
I really don't.

I would suggest rubbing more kittens on the affected area until the anglophobic feelings recede.

It was the cute litle shamrock that really got me Forget the kittens just give us a sweet little dragon for St David's day
