Just as they get it right, they screw up at the last minute, seeing as all bus stop polls are the same - you wonder why they took it away.

Perhaps bus stop polls are like food, and have a remove by date, beyond that mold starts appearing - or it goes soft and might flop into the road.
I wonder if it will be redesignated 'DG'?
One wonders how TfL can operate on this level of incompetence. Not just with regards to this but also.. other things. Which are suddenly all too forgettable.
Interesting that cyclists may have a harder time pulling out onto the flyover now, and hence stay in the road rather than the new cycle lane. This is much as I suspected. Makes me wonder if the Cycle Superhighway was in fact necessary at all.
Perhaps I am mis-remembering, but I thought part of the (perceived) rationale for moving the old stop and keeping the letter "M" was to allow the street furniture to be reused? So why has it been removed now?!

Is the cycle lane intended to deter cyclists from using the flyover? Looks to me like the blue lane leads cyclists down to the roundabout. Are cyclists likely to take the other exits there?
The bus shelter looks rather small, considering the stop is used by six different services.
"... several still choose to stay in the road, manoeuvre around any buses and continue up and over as before"

With the result that the traffic in the inside lane moves out by a foot or two, either to pass round them or give them space to get through.
Just out far enough, in other words, to block the already reduced space down the middle for any PTW users trying to filter between the lanes.
although the positioning of the bus shelter at the pointy end of the bus stop island means that only those standing inside can read it

But that is the only way you can more or less ensure that sunlight won't make it unreadable at certain times on certain days.
...but whereas normally you can stand up-road of the bus shelter and still catch a look at the screen, here there's no room.
After a tiny bit of research, I have learnt that the "PTW" above is (probably) powered two wheeler : what I was brought up to know as a motor bike (or possibly also a motor scooter).
@Marc I agree, it should be renamed Bus stop DG!

I must admit I find this final twist in the tale quite hilarious!
Perhaps they were sick and tired of hearing about Bus stop M and are sticking two fingers up to you with it!
The Bus Stop formally now as ...
There seems to be little consistency in the cycleways - the recently completed N/S and E/W routes don't have blue tarmac, but this one does.
I caught them in the act, about 6pm on the 11th:

@ Malcolm: Yes, PTW is the collective term for motorcycles, scooters and mopeds. In terms of town use the latter two probably make up at least half of the total, so to just say 'motorbikes' would be too narrow.
Maybe, in view of this stop's new found fame, it's being replaced with one of the new solar powered totem poles - the ones with the helpful-but-seldom-noticed blue button that illuminates the timetables. Though why that would require complete prior removal of the old sign and making good of the pavement is unclear.
Perhaps Bus Stop DG has been selected as the first location for the new deluxe solar-powered flag and over-the-air updating LCD timetable, complete with free public wi-fi and loudspeaker adverts?

Predictably, TfL couldn't possibly co-ordinate removal of the old with installation of the new !

Renaming M to DG would also eliminate the absurdity of having two adjacent stops named M.

Interestingly, there are five existing DG stops that form a EURion-like pattern. Perhaps DG will visit them all, by bus of course?
@ David

Aaargghh - Not plagiarism, just seen that you beat me to it !
Ahhhhhhhhhhh... theres the fix I needed after 4 days with no broadband!
@gerry
Free public broadband? Maybe DG will get a fast connection that way before anyone finds a key to that cupboard!
Just as you thought the saga was at an end.

Truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
I really dont know what I will do when this saga is finally over. Bus stop M is the gift that keeps on giving. It should be made into a Scandinavian style drama.
@John G: surely 'East London style'? FTFY
the Stop M sign is back! Saw it this morning as I walked past but forgot to take a pic
