If 80 runners can cause such a commotion to their transport plans, just wait until the RMT drops its "we want a massive bonus for doing our normal job during the Olympics" strike plans onto the table.

I just wish Paris had won, and the whole bloody thing would go away...

Your analysis is spot on (as it so often is).

All of us who live in the east end know that it just needs someone to sneeze in the vicinity of the Blackwall or Rotherhithe tunnels and the road network goes into gridlock. It doesn't matter what lanes they think they can "reserve" for Olympic traffic, if there's a shunt in the Blackwall then the east end will sieze up.

The whole idea that the athletes and big-wigs have to be whizzed about in cars, when so much money has been spent on public transport improvements is insane.

I am sure this must be an outrageous event to people who want the Olympics here.
But really...are you surprised this has happened with the route? Really?

But the new route still closes down a lot of red. By this logic, the marathon could have contined to Bow, but diverted via Euston Road and City Road. The whole Olympic statium is cut off by red like a moat. There must be a way of breaching this from the west without destroying their fragile transport plans.

What else do you expect Mr Coe is a Tory, and not even a real Olympic winner; all his meals where won during the major boycots.

Judging by the various spelling mistakes in the responses so far, I guess people are quite irritated by this subject....no doubt they'll be even more irritated if they have to travel in the region at the time of the Olympics. I think I'm going to go away....

Of course, it's just 80 athletes, with nobody watching. Have you ever actually watched a marathon at a major championship?

It has absolutely nothing to do with the route network. It has everything to do with money. The new route is considerably cheaper. They should have just said they were trying to save money to start with and avoid this ridiculous PR disaster
