BAFTA was used regularly for press screenings and cast/crew interviews (for TV shows mainly) back in the 1990s and was much favoured by the press pack. Many a "working" afternoon turned into early evening at the bar, where the glasses of complimentary vino were served in the best/worst traditions of journalism.
This is the reason I always read the blog.
I got the feeling, that I was really there.
Great description, DG, thanks.

BTW -why is the BAFTA mask winking?
The Watercolour Society is now housed is this rather diminutive home at the Bankside Gallery https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Tate+Modern and, I understand, is still slightly resentful that it's former rival across Piccadilly, the Royal Academy, is now so grand and successful in comparison.
I do like these "after the party has ended" type posts...the ones where if only we knew about it we could have been there too. Guess there is always next year/time.

@ Michael

...nothing better than actually being there though!
Information about the opening was readily available in Londonist's list of Things To Do In London This Weekend: 7-8 November

^ Noted. Thanks
Vague memories of seeing a BBC rectangular brass plaque by the door in the 1960s. Was this the home of the BBC's "Piccadilly One" studio?

It gets a mention on various web pages -- Brian Matthews talks about using it, and Bowiewonderworld names it as the studio for his John Peel Top Gear sessions in 1967/68.

Hmm, how about a visit to former BBC studio sites and "What are they now?"

Aeolian Hall, the Playhouse Theatre (I attended an "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" recording there in 1965) and the Paris Theatre, Lower Regent Street.

Cheers
