I walked this section on Friday evening during the summer, did not like it much, I found the route ok but I was using the guide book. I saw a a couple of deer in the posh bit of Buckhurst Hill just before you go down the alley way between the houses.
I did not enjoy the LOOP, I prefer the Capital Ring |
I can't say this was one of the most pleasant parts of the LOOP. I remember it was snowing and very, very cold when I walked this section.

If you fancy a (MTB!) bicycle ride out, I can recommend trying to follow the course of the Ching from above High Beach to the Lea where the N Circ crosses it.

'The Lake' you refer to is a likely as not the location where a local murder victim's limbs were found a few years ago. Seems people in these parts can only resolve disputes with fisticuffs and weapons as they are not capable of rational argument.(cf. the dog walkers).

Wow, that unbuilt service station is so annoyingly unconnected with the surrounding road network...

Thanks for the warning as I'm 1/3 way round the Capital Ring. Nothing currently on the Walk London website indicating that it will go offline on 1/11.

...TIL: there is a Birds of the Feather wiki

The River Ching is actually named as a back-formation from Chingford, not the other way around. According to Wikipedia, the village's name is thought to derive from either "King's Ford" or "Shingly Ford".

Thanks for the advice about the end of the LL19 walk - I followed the river to Debden. A lovely walk, blossom everywhere.
