I'd recommend Hitchin over Stevenage, other than to people who are fascinated by utopian town planning.

Second tip: check traveline for onward bus connections from these place. Some of them provide easy access to potentially more interesting destinations - eg from Swindon there are (mostly fairly frequent) bus connections to places that include Malmesbury, Marlborough, Devizes, Avebury, Chippenham and Cirencester. Essex also offers rich pickings (Maldon and Saffron Waldon in particular) if you're prepared to use abus for the final stage of the journey.
Your 'tons of places' link goes to the 'Visit by train' website with its lists of attractions. But what about anti-attractions?

With so many High Streets now interchangeable (betting shop/charity shop/estate agent followed by betting shop/charity shop/estate agent), a Best Viewed At A Fast Walking Pace generator would be fun!
Like a lot of people you have bypassed Faversham when it provides for a great day out with its independent shops, a variety of festivals, a street that apparently contains more medival houses than any other in the UK, the creek and plenty of places to eat and drink.
Have you made Luton interesting, yet?
Is this also the place to score ourselves for previous trips taken? I think I manage 33/84.

I would be particularly interested to hear DG's score!

Of the 84, Deal was the trip I enjoyed the most, again would be interested in other's top destination.

Re your comment about Luton, if there is one thing you have proved through the blog it's that everywhere has some interesting features worth seeking out.
I trust you will be aiming to tick off the remaining 8!
A bit of special pleading for Sandwich (plus dg enjoyed it too).
I know it's a bit wet here at the moment but I didn't realise Ipswich counted as the Seaside. Felixstowe would have been a better pick.

dg writes: All the seaside's in the blue boxes. Not all the blue boxes are the seaside.
To echo Steve, some of your best posts have been of what could be considered dull subjects. It takes a certain skill to turn the mundane into the interesting.
Sorry you left out Cheltenham. It's a nice relaxed place to visit

dg writes: Also more expensive to reach by train than anywhere in the grid.
How are the three places ordered within a box? The lack of n-s accuracy with, say, Beaconsfield between Amersham and Wendover is irritating.
