I wonder if you were the 588's first passenger.
Must have been nice to have the whole double-decker bus to yourself.
I wonder if the audio and visual announcements inside the bus announced the names of the stops.
Well you've explained why the photos I've seen show the 588 running past Stratford International rather than round the west side of Westfield. An odd working on the first two days of service!
typing in '588' on the TfL Bus page confused it, and takes you to 588 London Road instead, showing route number 116. Brilliant.
but there again, the 'Type in a bus number' part of the the TfL Website is particular bad. type in 'W2' for example (there used to be a bus with this route, but no more), instead of saying "No such bus", directs you to the postcode of London W2 instead and the 148 and other buses that run through that area. Type in W3 and it doesn't take you to the London postcode of W3, no it shows you bus route W3. A little consistency please, TfL! thx.
And of course once they start the widening work for the bridge which carries the Eastway over the canal, they'll have to divert the Hackney Wick-bound 588 too.

(That work will apparently take up most of the rest of the year - though when I called Hackney Council to ask them about it, they claimed that the footpath would remain open.)
All very interesting stuff (of course). Surely a contender for 'London's most unusual bus route'. Anyone know what the PVR (peak vehicle requirement) is? I'm guessing it's 2.
Sitting outside the IBC this lunchtime, I saw 5 buses go past, and but one passenger on all of them. I was surprised it was that many, to be honest!
@ Geofftech - there are sometimes "gaps" between TfL's data uploads of schedules to I-Bus and when routes start running. The 588 has been introduced very quickly and I suspect that it will not appear in Countdown feeds until Friday or Saturday this week. The uploads are usually on Thursday / Friday nights fortnightly.

There have been other gaps with some of the recent emergency shuttle buses introduced due to road works - the 573, 574 and 599. They're all in I-Bus now but weren't when they started. The same happened with the Streatham Common shuttles - 518 and 560 - when the bridge was replaced.

Conversely some changes are uploaded in advance so you get weird "branches" in a route's stop listing. We had this with the W11 and W15 when the diversions away from Palmerston Road occurred later than planned. TfL were organised in advance for that one but reality lagged behind!

@ Lorenzo - PVR has been stated as 3 on Londonbusroutes.net
Clearly, as it turned out, the 'pat down' wasn't thorough enough!
Thanks for the info about the opening of the road from Stratford International up the East Village. Very low key opening. Of course the access roads must be ready for the grand opening of the Chobham Academy at the start of the next school year in September. There also appears to be a park called Victory Park which looks like it will be opend soon to the public.
I noticed something about the 588s when I passed one this morning: yellow blinds.
I've asked the Olympic Park people about cycling to the O stadium for the athletics at the end of the month. The only getting there details are by public transport or car. I've no idea about how to get to the stadium, which entrances are open etc. and can't find any info on the web. I guess I will have to wait the 7 days for a response as they warned. Given that the DLR are now allowing bikes I wanted to pedal to Lewisham and again at the other end rather than via Pudding Mill or Stratford.
They have finally put a timetable up at Stratford city for the 588. I noticed there was two closed bus stops outside the copper box arena, I take it they will open in a few weeks time. I took a trip myself yesterday on this bus to check it out and found it easy to change for a 276 back to bow to save me walking all the way through the Stratford centre and it took me much less time.
Hi DG. I wondered if you could consider writing something positive about E3? There are plenty of new coffee shops - Zealand Road, Barone, Muxima, Paper and Cup, Carmelite and there soon to be a gastropub, Galvinisers Union on Devas Street in Bromley by Bow. It's not all doom and gloom.
Hi Hannah.

I live in E3, so I've written a fair few positive posts about the place. But I don't like coffee, so I'm afraid I won't be getting excited about the appearance of half a dozen coffee shops.
Did it myself today. The only passenger (plus a driver route-learning the 588).
Where is gastropub going to be? Is it new-build or a conversion?
If it's the former "Duke of Wellington", 16 Newmill House - Devas Street. E3 3LL, god forbid!
