I ate Sunday lunch in that pub once. (Long story.)

I love how the Swan & Bottle's website gives the nearest train station to the pub as "Uxbridge Vine Street"! Perhaps a little overdose on the old-fashionedness?

There will be another lengthy London bus jaunt one day, but not for some time.

I'm still trying to work out if N-S can be done in four buses, or whether it needs five...

I'm sure if you define north and south start and end points that the suggestions will flood in. You can do Redhill to Elephant and Castle in two buses but then it gets more difficult depending on where your northern boundary is. You could reach Edgware in 2 more buses but it depends how purist you're being about the London boundary.

I've thought about doing London - Brighton by bus (in a day) just to see if it is possible. I think it is but you're not blessed with high frequencies south of Crawley so it's high risk if there were delays.

London-Brighton should be just about doable - 402 from Bromley to Tunbridge Wells, and I think there's one from there to Brighton (729?). I think about doing that too from time to time.

Nice series - especially the mighty 53. The 331 sounds like an interesting jaunt in the country.

N-S needs five buses I think - there are some pretty 'long boundaries' down south, and few arterial bus routes in either direction, especially since the 109 was cut back....
