Unusual to see a station with the world "Halt" in the name, it seems to have been removed from most other stations that once had the name. I'm surprised how rurual it looks. I'd forgotton about the thankfully shortlived "one" brand. What a stupid name that was.
Interesting. I used to use Emerson Park when I went from Upminster to do teaching practice at the Royal Liberty School in Romford - there was a bus from the Emerson Park station. Earlier, I lived in Hornchurch right near that footpath. I was wondering if it still existed, but I saw the end of it recently from a bus (370 I think, goes down Osborne Road, and from there there is a stretch of 'Hail and Ride' where someone hailed us).
As the service is advertised as "This train has Standard Class seating only", it will not be possible to purchase a First Class ticket.

It is therefore legal to occupy the First Class seats with a second class ticket.

Enjoy the experience while you can, as the privilege will disappear when Overground takes over.
I think they have reverted to Emerson Park Halt recently, as when I've gone to Romford from Upminster it used to just say Emerson Park. The last time I went to Romford a few months ago I noticed the sign now says Emerson Park Halt.

On a slightly different note I always thought Emerson Park would be a great name for a rock band.
@ Petras409

I also "like" the way the term "Second Class" was quietly dropped and changed to "Standard Class". The term "First Class" still remaining though. We are not as progressive as we like to think. Surely it be better to drop the word "class" also. If we are still to have two types of travel then "Standard seating" & "Premium seating" may be better choices?
How bizarre this isolated outpost of LO be, unconnected with any other part of the system. Better surely it be branded as part of the District Line, even if LO provide the rolling stock?
As it was -

Classic DG - it's been said before but it's great to be able to combine the more objective analysis of London Reconnection with DG's more idiosyncratic eyewitness accounts.
And I'm still looking forward to you visiting the Greenford branch line.
That one train will be replaced by an Overground train in the future, I wonder if it will be a full 5 carriage one.

With regards to Morden South, that would have been a District Line and Northern Line station at some point had history been different, meaning it would have been very well used compared to today.
Somehow I can't see London Overground's "every station staffed" policy continuing when they inherit this station.
Have used this service quite a few times myself; if you time your arrival at Romford correctly, it's far quicker than a bus.
While four carriages (with or without first class sections) may be overkill for much of the time, the line does get pretty busy with school traffic (to Upminster in the am, and back from there in the pm). Still known locally as the "push-pull" although it hasn't been one of those for may a year.
This line sounds a bit like the "Abbey Flyer" that runs from St Albans to Watford Junction. That's also unsignalled single track, and because the one-way journey is sixteen minutes, the maximum achievable frequency is a very inconvenient 45 minutes!
Metrication, it will be worked by one of the 4-car trains being procured for Gospel Oak and West Anglia services.
I understand that Emerson Park (Halt) will be gaining an extra platform but in line with recent Network Rail policy, it will be platform 0...

;-)
What memories. I used to play on the track when there was a break in service from 10.13 am to 4.13pm on Monday to Friday with my mates in the school holidays. It used to share Platform 5 with the District (no Platform 6 then at Upminster. Used this when the buses were on strike to get to the Royal Liberty too using the District one end and the Great Eastern at the other end. Yes we always called it the Push & Pull too which it was then. Emerson Park still looks the same now really. Thanks DG for this and all your other topics which I religiously follow.
Understated comedy genius, thanks Diamond Geezer.
You missed the fact that the Emerson Park estate itself, to the north east of the station, is Havering's answer to Bishops Avenue - all enormous detached houses with swimming pools and bars and no taste whatsoever. Proper Footballers' Wives territory.
Apologies for the 30-months-late comment, but I saw just now on the TfL status indicator that there are "Minor delays between Romford and Upminster due to signalling problems." This set a bell ringing and I had to check back here to make sure I'd remembered correctly but yes - the line has one train and no signals, making this something of an accomplishment!
